A diary of Spanish immersion with Spanish Express - In Spain with Tom

Learning a new language becomes easier and a memorable experience when students immerse themselves in the local culture and traditions. Learners retain more than they think they are, absorbing in additional subtle ways from their interactions.   So, when students are up to learn the Spanish language, the locales of a Spanish-speaking country are the best source of enhancing their fluency. Hence, opting for an Immersion Programme in Spain with the SPANISH HOMESTAY IMMERSION PROGRAMME (SHIP) is the best option.  This is the story of a young man’s experience with The Spanish Express Immersion Programme.

TOM’S IMMERSIVE JOURNEY: A SHARED DIARY OF A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE

Here we meet Tom, an 18-year-old London student, who had honed his Spanish skills previously with SPANISH EXPRESS.  To further prepare for his A-level exam after completing the PEARSON EDEXCEL LEVEL 3 ADVANCED GCE IN SPANISH, Tom joined the SPANISH HOMESTAY IMMERSION PROGRAMME (SHIP) in DOSRIUS, BARCELONA.

Opting to take his A-Level exam remotely, Tom wished to reduce nervousness in a formal setting. His participation in SHIP was part of a personalized approach to meet specific educational needs, enabling him to embark on a volunteering commitment in the Canary Islands.

TOM'S IMMERSION BEGINS:

Tom's week was filled with unique experiences, starting with the delicious Spanish cuisine. Spanish food was a highlight of his trip, with dishes like fideuá, poultry with vegetables, salads, and pasta with meatballs. Fideuá, a dish from Gandía, Valencia, became a favorite. It's similar to paella but with pasta as the base.

EXPLORING BARCELONA:

No visit to Spain is complete without exploring the architectural wonders of Barcelona. Tom visited the Sagrada Familia and Casa Milà, two iconic landmarks designed by Gaudí. These experiences allowed him to appreciate the marvels of Catalan architecture.

VISIT TO THE BURRITO RESERVE: RUKIMON

Tom's love for animals led to a special visit to Rukimon, a park where all the donkey breeds of the Peninsula live. Located in the valley of Canyamars (DOSRIUS, BARCELONA), this reserve was a unique opportunity to interact with rescued donkeys.

EXPLORING ARGENTONA:

Argentona, with its architectural legacy from the Catalan Art Nouveau period, offered a glimpse into local history. Tom explored stately homes, mansions, and the Museum of the Pitcher, a showcase of pottery tradition.

CLOSING WITH A MOVIE NIGHT:

To top it all off, Tom's love for movies was indulged with a visit to the cinema for his farewell. Watching Spanish films not only improved his vocabulary but also allowed him to delve into Spanish culture.

Tom's diary from his Immersion Programme in Spain with SPANISH EXPRESS is a testament to the power of immersion in language learning. From delicious Spanish cuisine to exploring architectural wonders and interacting with rescued donkeys, Tom's journey was filled with unforgettable experiences. Immersion programmes like SHIP offer students the opportunity to not only improve their language skills but also gain a deeper understanding of the culture and traditions of Spain. Whether it's preparing for exams or simply enjoying the summer holidays, an immersion programme in Spain can be a life-changing experience.
